Prof. Dr. Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt

Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt holds a full professorship of social work and pedagogy at the European Fernhochschule Hamburg (University of Applied Sciences), Germany. She is specialised in intercultural and international Mediation: After having completed her doctorate at the department for Intercultural Business Communication at Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena in 2012 (Intercultural Mediation: The Argument for a Perspective-Relative Model), she has been working on a theoretical framework of mediation from a cultural-constructive perspective.

In 2013/14 Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt conducted the working group RESEARCH for federal mediation associations and the EU to illuminate the motivation of lawyers involved in international child abduction cases under the 1980 Hague to support mediation. In 2017 she founded the School of Intercultural Mediators (Schule Interkultureller Mediatoren) based in London an Berlin.

Dr. Kriegel-Schmidt is the Head of the Training Course International Mediation (interculture) in Berlin and Co-Head of the German National Research Group on Mediation (ForMed). Since 2017 she is the representative of the German Foundation of Mediation in Berlin (Deutsche Stiftung Mediation).

Besides her great interest in mediation, Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt is specialised in both developing and supervising training and teaching methods for intercultural trainers. She is in charge of two train-the-trainer-programs: for the association interculture at the Intercultural Summer Academy (ISA) in Jena, Germany and for the Franco-German Youth Office in Germany and France. Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt has a rich international teaching-experience and lives in Berlin.

Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt hat eine ordentliche Professur für Sozialarbeit und Pädagogik an der Europäischen Fernhochschule Hamburg inne. Sie ist spezialisiert auf interkulturelle und internationale Mediation: Nach ihrer Promotion am Lehrstuhl für Interkulturelle Wirtschaftskommunikation der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena im Jahr 2012 (Intercultural Mediation: The Argument for a Perspective-Relative Model) arbeitet sie an einem theoretischen Rahmen der Mediation aus kulturkonstruktiver Perspektive.

Im Jahr 2013/14 führte Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt die Arbeitsgruppe Forschung für Bundesverbände und die EU durch, um die Motivation von Rechtsanwälten in internationalen Kindesentführungsfällen nach Den Haag 1980 zur Unterstützung der Mediation zu beleuchten. Im Jahr 2017 gründete sie die Schule Interkultureller Mediatoren mit Sitz in London und Berlin.

Dr. Kriegel-Schmidt ist Leiterin des Lehrgangs Internationale Mediation (interculture) in Berlin und Co-Leiterin der Deutschen Forschungsgruppe Mediation (ForMed). Seit 2017 ist sie Vertreterin der Deutschen Stiftung Mediation in Berlin.

Neben ihrem großen Interesse an Mediation ist Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt auf die Entwicklung und Betreuung von Trainings- und Lehrmethoden für interkulturelle TrainerInnen spezialisiert. Sie betreut zwei Train-the-Trainer-Programme: für den Verein interculture an der Interkulturellen Sommerakademie (ISA) in Jena und für das Deutsch-Französische Jugendwerk in Deutschland und Frankreich.

Katharina Kriegel-Schmidt hat eine reiche internationale Lehrerfahrung und lebt in Berlin.
